My $5,000 Mistake
When I entered real estate, one of my biggest mistakes was trying to impress people.
Back in my 40s, I wore $5,000 suits. I drove Mercedes and BMWs. I took extravagant vacations.
I thought looking successful would help me win listings. I believed sellers would see the expensive clothes, cars, and trips and think, “This guy must be a great agent.”
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Years of therapy and experience taught me something far more valuable:
Sellers don’t care about your suit or your car.
They care about whether you listen to them.
They care about whether you understand their fears, goals, and expectations.
They care about whether they can trust you to guide them through one of the biggest financial events of their lives.
Providing amazing service and building real rapport will get you more listings, more referrals, and more commission income.
Trying to look successful is a colossal waste of money and energy.
Your designer suit won’t win the listing.
Trust will.
Period.
