Your first listing presentation might feel like a train wreck.
Your first call to a probate attorney might be awkward.
And the first time a seller asks you to cut your commission? You might suddenly forget how words work.
That doesn’t mean you can’t do this. It means you need practice.
I was listening to Ed Mylett explain three stages of mastering a skill:
Awkward: You feel lost and unsure. Mechanical: You know the steps, but have to think about them. Natural: You’ve practiced enough that it flows.
Too many agents quit at awkward.
They tell themselves, “I’m just not good at this.”
Or they buy another course when they need to use what they already know.
You build confidence by doing the work:
Practice your listing objections with another agent. Reach out to potential sellers. Follow up with people already in your pipeline. Ask for feedback and fix what isn’t working.
Some progress is hard to see at first.
Think of a piñata. Each hit helps weaken it, even when no candy falls out.
But don’t swing blindly. Track your results. If your approach isn’t working, make changes.
Here’s your task for this week: Pick ONE listing skill and set a daily minimum standard to improve it.
Five follow-ups. Ten minutes of objection practice. One call to a new referral partner.
Keep it simple. Then do it.
You don’t have to be great on day one. You have to give yourself enough practice to get good.
Hit reply and tell me: What skill are you working on this week?
